Happy Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day...here are four of my greatest blessings.

I am so blessed that these four people call me mom. I wouldn't want my life any other way. I am also SO incredibly blessed that I am able to live close to my mother. She's such a tremendous help to me with my kids and it's just great to be able to see her regularly and live life with her nearby.

My sweet six year old filled this out for me at school. I LOVE these little things and they make me so happy and they make me laugh! I love that she thinks I'm as pretty as a horse...that's not usually a compliment but I know how much she loves horses. I also thinks it's great that she thinks I'm smart because I know math. I can do kindergarten math but that's about it. We'll leave the math up to her dad when she gets a little bigger!

I have so many thoughts about motherhood swirling in my head but rather than try to get them out in a way that you'd understand I'd like you to read a blog post that pretty much sums up how I feel about motherhood! I hope you'll take a moment to read Why Mother's Day is for the birds...

Happy Mother's Day!! I hope you are treated like the queen you are.

DIY: Avocado & Banana Face Mask

Today Kendra is bringing us a great recipe for a refreshing facial mask. Thank you Kendra!

All-Natural DIY Beauty: The Avocado and Banana Face Mask

In honor of Pregnancy Awareness Month, we want to help moms everywhere to take some time out to unwind and pamper themselves. With the stresses of managing your household and tending to everyone's needs but your own, moms can frequently feel a little frazzled. That's why taking time to treat yourself to a luxurious at-home spa treatment is one of those many crucial "me moments" that every mom should occasionally have.

Throughout my career in the travel sphere, I have been fortunate enough to experience a great deal of breathtaking views.  A personal favorite for family and business, Honolulu is one of the most stunning places in the world.  As the most geographically isolated area of the globe, the island state always leaves me feeling relaxed - even as a mama of three, a hard feat at that!

Honolulu is also home to some of the world's greatest spas. At the Royal Hawaiian Hotel and Spa, ranking amongst Honolulu’s best hotels for spas and facials, guests can indulge in the Abhasa Tropical Facial. Using simple ingredients from nature, many of which can be found in gardens and grocery stores, this beautiful treatment puts moisture back into the skin naturally.

You might not have any plans to jet off to Hawaii in the near future, but you can still treat yourself to a beautiful at-home mask inspired by the Abhasa Tropical Facial. This mask is moisturizing enough to soothe dry and sensitive skin types, but shouldn’t cause blemishes for those who are oily or acne-prone. Here's how to make the Avocado and Banana Face Mask for your at-home spa night.
Avocado and Banana Face Mask

You'll need:

1 Avocado
1 Banana
2 tbsp Olive Oil
1 tbsp Honey

What to do:

Mix the olive oil and honey together and combine with a whisk or fork. The honey won't fully mix with the olive oil, but that's okay. Mash the avocado, using a blender or food processor if necessary, and mix into the olive oil and honey. Mash the banana and add last to the mixture, vigorously mixing all ingredients together.

Be sure to fully cleanse your skin and remove all makeup before applying any mask. Apply evenly over the face, neck and chest. Excess mask can be applied to other areas of the body that need extra moisture or stored in a container in the fridge for a day or so. After you've applied the mask, allow it to sit for 10-15 minutes. Rinse off with warm water. Finish with a serum or moisturizer for truly luscious and resilient skin.

Thank you again Kendra for guest posting today & sharing this facial mask with us!

Dot Girl First Period Kit Review and Giveaway

The Dot Girl First Period Kit is perfect for young girls who are entering womanhood. My oldest daughter is reaching this stage and asking questions. Last year she was able to take "the class", you know the one where the nurse comes in and talks to all the girls. They watch a video and ask questions. I was lucky enough to be there to help. I was very impressed with how all these young girls handled the video and asked questions. I was so proud of my daughter for really watching and asking the right questions. She did get some information that was provided by a sponsored company. It was okay. But when I saw Dot Girl, I knew I had to learn more.

I received the Dot Girl First Period Kit for my daughter to review. This kit came in a very cute pink bag with an answer book, which answers twenty common questions girls may have about menstruation. It included information like, what kind of pads to use, how they should track their periods, how long they may bleed, why they have a period and information on cramping. It also shares when you may begin your period. There is nothing worse than starting to bleed and not know why. I think informing our daughters at a young age is a must. And I believe that this kit is a good way to introduce the subject to your tween girls.

This book is very easy to read. Your daughters will be able to easily read through it with you or on her own and understand what to expect. She will learn the right questions to ask you too! I love that is makes the subject so easy for us moms too! My daughter and I had a lovely conversation about her first period. She has even come to me with more questions without being embarrassed. I am so relieved. Thank you Dot Girl!
Also included in this kit.... 5 pads, 5 disposable bags, 2 antibacterial hand wipes and the best of all a reusable gel heating pad. The supply is great for getting a girl ready for the day her first period comes. She can easily tuck this bag away in her backpack or purse to take on any trip. She is now ready. If she is at home, perfect, you can help her along with her first experience. If she is at school, just help her prepare how to ask her teacher about leaving the classroom discretely to the restroom, kit in hand. I also recommend that you place a change of underpants in the kit with a zip lock baggy in case there are any messes.

The reusable gel heating pad will be a life saver for them. Just simply snap the disc inside the bag a few times until it activates. The bag will become warm, perfect for soothing those achy, crampy tummy's.  The bag will become hard after cooling. To get it ready for the next use, just simply place in boiling water for about 10 minutes or until the bad is full of clear liquid again. Let cool and you can use it again! You can even use this as a cool pack. Just place in the freezer until the contents of the bag are frozen. Every girl and momma needs one of these!

Once your kit has been used, make sure you replenish it for the next time!
Moms!!!! You will love this kit for your girls. Get one now before your tween reached womanhood. She will THANK you for it!

Reviews....
This product was a very good idea. It helped me talk more with my daughter in detail, and just showed her and explained to her how to keep herself clean on those days, and how to track your monthly. -Terrie from Sacramento, California

I have been consistently pleased with this company.  I contacted them by phone last year and they were very helpful.  The Dot Girl kit arrived quickly and was exactly as we hoped it would be.  The kit is a wonderful, reassuring - very "grown-up" - necessity that I wish had been around forever!  Every young girl should have one.  Thank you for making this BIG step a lot easier to manage. - Rebecca Brooklyn, New York

This kit was stylish and helpful at the same time. It is something she can drop in her book bag or purse in order to be prepared at any time. - Mary Williamson, Georgia

    Christmas Shirt Applique's & Giveaway

First, don't forget to go by and enter our {Brassy Apple} giveaway
2 winners will get to choose from 2 different scarf pattern ebooks.

Giveaway for Applique's below Post... Don't forget to enter

This Christmas I decided to make applique shirts for our family's christmas photo. I waited in line for an hour to get my fabric. Seems like everyone is sewing projects for gifts this year. I didn't mind waiting because I had the perfect fabric and I loved hearing everyone talk about what they were making. I also loved the suggestions I got for the other fabrics I got.

When I started planning I decided of course that the boys would get ties. Yes! HUBBY said he would wear an applique shirt. He even said the shirt looked cool! YEAH! So their shirts were easy and done quickly. I originally was going to make the girls matching but I already had matching fabrics, that was good enough. I wanted to make them all different but with the same fabric.

So here is what we ended up with. Love them all.

I chose black shirts on all of these because I really wanted the fabric to stand out. I like how these turned out. I really love that Santa is in different places on each tie. That way the boys don't feel too identical. Ha! Ha! So the one on the right is hubby's and the left is my sons. Both love them and look so handsome in them.

Here are all the girls shirts. I can't say which is my favorite because they are all so cute!

The reindeer of course was fun to make. I made sure I added a lil bow on one of the antlers to make this a girl reindeer. This applique required a bit more time than the others because there were so many little parts. But that's what makes it so unique. I also did not change the thread when sewing around the eyes because I had little hands helping and she wanted red. It is also not the best sew job, but my lil girl will always remember getting to help me make it. Thats all that counts to me!

The stocking is adorable. I am loving this one and actually am making another one tonight for a friends daughter. This particular applique will be quick and easy for those of you who want to whip out some last minute shirts for Christmas this year. Only 4 things to sew, then simply add a bow and loop. Very quick.

Next I made the word JOY but used an ornament as the letter O. It turned out very cute too and is another quick applique to do on short notice. I love the lil white bow on this one. Gives it a little dimension. The letters are a little tricky to maneuver around with your sewing machine, but just take your time and make sure when you lift and turn, that you keep your needle down in the fabric. That way you are messing up your line of thread too much. Mine again aren't perfect, so I am not a good example. No the best seamstress. Hee! Hee! That's my flaw.

Then there's my shirt. I decided to make Christmas trees on mine, but I didn't want them to be solid in color so I cut strips out to make my trees. This took some time sewing but what a beautiful reward. I love it and can't wait to wear it around. I also added bows on my trees. Thought they were pretty cute.

I wanted to point out that when I stitched these on, I used a type of zig zag pattern instead of just a straight stitch. Using a straight stitch could have made this project much quicker, but I liked the zig zag look.

    One more thing...

I made headbands for the girls to wear with their shirts. Cute! Cute!

Hope you enjoyed our family Christmas shirts. Please share with us your holiday projects with us Wednesday during our Creative Share Link Party.
