Happy Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day...here are four of my greatest blessings.

I am so blessed that these four people call me mom. I wouldn't want my life any other way. I am also SO incredibly blessed that I am able to live close to my mother. She's such a tremendous help to me with my kids and it's just great to be able to see her regularly and live life with her nearby.

My sweet six year old filled this out for me at school. I LOVE these little things and they make me so happy and they make me laugh! I love that she thinks I'm as pretty as a horse...that's not usually a compliment but I know how much she loves horses. I also thinks it's great that she thinks I'm smart because I know math. I can do kindergarten math but that's about it. We'll leave the math up to her dad when she gets a little bigger!

I have so many thoughts about motherhood swirling in my head but rather than try to get them out in a way that you'd understand I'd like you to read a blog post that pretty much sums up how I feel about motherhood! I hope you'll take a moment to read Why Mother's Day is for the birds...

Mothers Day Ideas

Today I thought I would revisit some my past gift ideas. These are perfect for Mother's Day! I also thought I would share some mothers day poems that you could use with them.

Check out my handprint bouquet for a quick and memorable gift.

I was also excited yesterday to get an email from Care.com. They shared my bouquet in their post for 27 Mother's Day Gift Ideas Kids Can Make. I am number 9 on the list, in case you want to check it out. ;D

I loved making these, the Newspaper Flower Bouquet. This takes a bit more time, but so worth it when you see the smile on your mommas face.

Handprint embroidery can be so creative and fun. Let the kids pic out the fabric and add their names to personalize it even more.

These beautiful handprint Easter lily's were made by Jamie. I love these! 

This lovely framed pin cushion was made by my mom at Pine Creek Style.  My kids helped and I arranged the pins in a heart for this photo. I wanted to keep it that way. LOL

Decorative Fridge Magnets are fun too. I made these a while back to dress up my own fridge, but they would be great to give as gifts too!

Mother's Day Poem #1

I am small and it is hard to stay clean.

I sometimes leave handprints in places I don't mean.

On windows, walls and on the kitchen floor,

The cookie jar, light switch or the refrigerator door.

I am giving you this handprint,

So when I get older, you can look back

To a time long ago when I was small,

And still see my handprints here on the wall.

Mother's Day Poem #2

Sometimes you get discouraged

Because I am so small,

And always leave my fingerprints

On furniture and walls.

But everyday I am growing,

I'll be grown up someday,

And all these tiny handprints

will simply fade away.

So here is my tiny handprint

Just so you can recall,

Exactly how my fingers looked

When I was very small.

Mother's Day Poem #3

Everyday I am exploring

Touching everything I have found

I leave behind my little marks

And handprints all around

You clean up those handprints

But someday when I am grown

You will wish you just had one handprint

To keep for your very own

I made this handprint for you

So that one day when I am tall

You will remember what my hand looked like

Long ago when I was very small

Mother's Day Bouquet

Here is a simple and quick gift you can make for mother's day this year!

PAINTED HAND BOUQUETS

We made these up in a matter of minutes the other night! And they dry very quick too so you can make them and take them the same day!

I have 4 kids and had each of them put their hand print on the paper with different colors. We then added a bow and stems along with little hearts in the center of the hands.

These would also look cute  on a long piece of paper showing each handprint as single flowers in a field.

They are so cute. Hope you find time to make some for your moms and grandmas in your life.

If you don't have time to mail these out for Mother's Day....take a pic and email or text your MOM a beautiful Bouquet!

Mother's Day Breakfast | Nonny's Way

A simple Mother's Day Breakfast for kids to fix (*with a little help),  

making Mom's day special...

Cherrios Cereal Sundae

What you will need....

1 box of Choclate Cheerios
1 small box of strawberries, wash and slice
2 bananas, sliced
1 can whipped cream
Candy sprinkles and/or Sugar Sprinkles
Chocolate bar, grated

How to make this special treat...Place the Cheerios in a bowl, add strawberries and bananas
Add whipped cream and sprinkle with candy/sugar sprinkles
Grate a small amount of chocolate bar over the top
Serve with Milk, Chocolate milk or juice

I had the grandkids one weekend and didn't have any milk to drink. They wanted cereal. So, I used whip cream instead of  milk. The kids loved it! Now they request it!  It makes for a fun breakfast and it tastes good too!

Newspaper Flowers Tutorial

These would be great for a variety of things...

Mother's Day, Teachers Appreciation, Decor....

What you will need...

• Newspaper
• Circle Template ( about the size of a small cereal bowl )
• Spray Paint ( I used 3 colors in this tutorial )
• Card Board Box
• Pipe Cleaners in various colors
• Net Fabric ( I used white and cut them to a little larger than the newspaper circles )
• Sharpie
• Scissors

How to make them...

Start by taking your circle template and stack of newspapers. ( not too thick, you want to be able to easily cut the paper ) Trace around your template right over the newspaper. Make as many as you like. It depends on the project and how many flowers you want to make. This bouquet took about 4 of each color.

Cut out your circles ~ have your kids help too. These would be fun to give as gifts. Just make sure if they are young to use safe kid scissors. (gotta be safe)

Now you are going to want to take one circle at a time and pinch from underneath in the middle of your circle. Form a cute flower. I find that looking away while doing this makes a nice flower. If you stare at it while making it, you will try to make it too perfect. The OCD might come out! Hee!

This is what it will look like on the bottom of the flower. Just pinch tightly together. Some of them you will need to just fold a bit to keep it pinched. No need to secure with tape because we are going to use the pipe cleaners later.

Make a whole bunch of these and set them aside in your cardboard box lid. Lids work best because they are low and you have better access when painting. Plus your little flowers can fly all over the place when you move them.

Now go outside or to a well ventilated room and take these and your spray paint with you. I like to use 3 or more colors, they just look nicer in the arrangement. Separate your flowers into 3 piles, and spray each  lightly with the colors you chose. I used Pink, Blue and Green. Let Dry. It won't take long. By the time you get them back to the craft table, you should be good since you are only lightly spraying them.

Next, get out your pipe cleaners and net fabric, place the netting behind the flower. I like the texture it adds to the flowers. On some of the flowers I added 2 net circles and offset them to add just a little extra.

Then take your pipe cleaner ( I used a similar color to the flower ) bend over the end a bit and pinch and twist around the base of the flower. Make some of your stems longer than others so you can give your flowers different height in the vase. Do this with as many flowers as you like depending on the project. In this case I made 12 for my small pink vase.

Once you have all your flowers made, just start placing them in your vase.
