Re - Fashioned Dress

This is a simple tutorial on how to make a re-fashioned dress from an old t-shirt and some extra material. My daughter LOVES Paul Frank. I searched and searched for the perfect outfit with no luck. So I decided to take an old shirt, some pajama pants and extra material to make this dress for her.
What to know how I made it? Check out the tutorial below!

First, find an old t-shirt and extra matching material you have from other t-shirts or extra material.
Cut the top of the shirt, leaving the arms and neck hole in tact. See above pic as a reference. Then measure and cut strips of your other fabric. Alternate the pieces until you have your desired length. I just measured mine off the shirt. It's a 9/10. I made the lower strips a bit larger as I went down to give the dress a bit of flair.
After you lay out the strips of fabric how you like it, sew each one together. I like the unfinished look a lot, so I kept mine on the outside of the dress. Once I had both the front and back sewed, it was time to sew them together. Place the front and back together, right side in. Sew and keep it right side in.
Now it's time to add it to the top of the dress. I did this by (and sorry for not having a pic) slipping the bottom of the dress through the neck hole. Sewed it together and then let the bottom of the dress down through the neck, keeping the unfinished look on the top of the dress too. I also added a little monkey to the top by just sewing a straight stitch around the material.
Here is your finished dress. Isn't it cute. I love it and lil miss birthday girl was so surprised when she opened it! I loved seeing her face when I told her she could wear it to school that day!!!
Here is a close up of the cute material. I also wanted to point out that I just used a straight stitch on this dress. You can surge it too if you like. When I washed this, it frayed a bit, but I liked the look of it.
I also made this barrette to match the dress. I did this by just tying and knotting it to the barrette. No glue. Done. The whole outfit was a hit. Yeah!
