My dad is my hero

Hey friends, hope you're doing great. I'm sorry that I've been absent for the last two weekends. Last weekend took us to St. Louis to celebrate the 90th birthday of my husbands grandmother. We had a GREAT time and enjoyed the free zoo and of course Ted Drewe's!!! We also had an incredible time catching up with all the family and we're excited that we now only live 4 hours from family rather than 12!

This week my niece has been here with us and helping me tremendously with the kids. She's been great and played countless games, colored TONS of pictures, read lots of books and beat me at Monopoly Deal more times than I can count. She's been getting me in the crafty mode too, since she loves to craft and it helps to have someone to bounce ideas off of (my husband always says "don't ask me, you're the creative one").

I got the shirts done for the kids to wear tomorrow for Father's Day. I'm so happy with how they turned out and can't wait for him to see them at church in the morning! I also have printed out this Super Dad banner and plan on hanging it up for him to see after church. I'll share photos of the kids in their shirts next week. But there they are!! What do you think?

In need of some Father's Day help!

You may remember this post from last year.
I told you about the shirts I've made for my kids to wear on Father's Day.

2008 - "following in daddy's footsteps"

2008 - "my dad is a perfect ten"

2009- "my dad rocks"

2010 - "my dad is the bomb"
So I'm still trying to decide what to do for Father's Day this year.
I've got three shirts to make...and not a TON of time.

I saw this cute shirt that Jess from Running with scissors made,
and I'm totally thinking about making it.
But my idea includes a personal drawing by the kids
(of which only Naomi can really do)
and embroidery floss on the t-shirt.

My other idea is to have the same words but in the middle do a
Supermanesque "DAD" logo with fabric paint.

The last thought I have is to make the kids AND my husband matching tie shirts.
I was thinking of putting "daddy's girl" on the ties that the girls would be wearing.

So, what do you think? What should I make?
I'm wondering if I should catalog the first idea and wait till all the kids
can draw pictures of them with dad? Hmmm....

Would LOVE to hear your thoughts...and then you can see what I make AFTER Father's Day.
I always like it to be a surprise when they show up for church,
since he doesn't see them dressed before we get to church on Sundays.

Happy Easter!

He is RISEN!
Alleluia!

I pray that you have a blessed Easter, that you are able to spend time with your family, but most importantly that you are able to hear the GOOD NEWS of Christ's death and resurrection. He loves you so much that he stretched His arms and died on the cross just for you! If you were the only person on the earth He still would have gone through all that suffering, agony, separation from God JUST FOR YOU! You are LOVED! With an everlasting love!!! Praise be to God that Jesus was raised from the dead and that we worship the LIVING GOD!

So, you may or may not know that I am a photographer. As a photographer I try to get my clients to steer away from matchy matchy outfits (and no denim with white shirts...) and go with coordinating outfits, but as a mom, I LOVE matchy matchy outfits for my kiddos. But it's really hard to find matching outfits for a 4 year old girl, a 3 year old boy and a 6 month old girl. So, I get the honor of making the matching outfits (but usually only for big occasions or holidays).

Luckily after we moved I found some time to get this idea out of my head and into wearable clothing for the kids. They LOVE their outfits and it couldn't make me more happy. I dread the day that one of them tells me they don't want to wear something that I made for them! We had a little mini photo shoot yesterday so that I could document Easter and the cute outfits I made. I love it when something actually comes together (and on time is even better!).

Here are some of the photos from the photoshoot!

The headband for the girls came from a tutorial that Kelly at Sewing in No Mans Land wrote!

If you have any questions about anything I made feel free to leave a comment and then check back here for my response...or email me at

Happy Easter!!!

Brassy Apple Review & Giveaway

I am very excited today to share with you an amazing shop.... The {Brassy Apple}

I truly enjoy creating unique, eclectic items for women and children and extending my designs to offer patterns and DIY kits for the Do it yourself woman. From my Shaggy Mosaic style jeans, Aprons, skinny scarves and more, I hope you find something unexpected in each piece. Designing with fresh colors and fabrics that are only reproduced a few times keeps things new and original for you and me!

I was very excited to feature The Brassy Apple with my readers especially since I have been buying Megan's ebooks for the past few months now. LOL My first purchase was her "Shaggy Mosaic Jeans" This is the best project ever. I hat throwing away the girls jeans just because they have holes in them and I hate ugly patches. Megan's tutorial for the "Shaggy Mosaic Jeans" was my saving grace. I can now re-fashion their old jeans into some oh so adorable ones instead of throwing them out!
This pattern and directions were so easy to follow. I had my own masterpiece done in no time. I literally spend all my time just trying to find the right fabric. Don't we all. But actually putting this together is a dream and your lil one will love showing them off. I like that she shows that a mom can wear these too. So all you {Trendy} moms out there.... don't forget to fashion some for yourself!

Another one of my favorites of Megan's is her scarves. She has 20 different styles. Each of her ebooks gives you 10 different designs. So you will definitely find a favorite for each member of your family and friends too. Yep, you will be making these as gifts. I know I am. Christmas, Birthdays, you names it. Anyone would love one of the Brassy Apple Designs. You can choose from The Bunchy Scarf Pattern or The Brassy Neck Scarf Booklet. Both have some pretty fabulous patterns. Trust me you will want both ebooks. And I made my first scarf in about 15 minutes while cooking dinner. LOL Super easy instructions with some cute photos too!

Check out Megan's Video on how to wear your Scarf...

Jamie got some copies of the scarf ebooks from Megan too. Here's what she had to say...

You are going to love this Brassy Apple Neck Scarf eBook. It is FULL of awesome scarf patterns that are wonderfully illustrated and explained. I'm by no means a master seamstress but these patterns look so fun, quick and easy that I can't wait to give them a try. I need to buy some fun fleece and get to work because I've got lots of friends and family that live in cold, snowy climates and I'm pretty sure their necks are begging me to make them a cute scarf...or two! You have to check this eBook out and get sewing! A cold neck will thank you!...or just an averagely warm neck that needs to be cuteified! (I think I just made up two words! ha!)

Ok, not only is Megan fantastic for her Shop, she has a blog too! The Brassy Apple Blog is just as fun because she shares some really great tutorials there. You will go crazy making out a checklist of off the projects she shares. I already have a huge list.

I found a post today that I added to my list. It's for a {Girl's Rosette Shrug} Re-fashioned from a T-Shirt. Just look at how adorable that is. Your lil girl will love to wear this beauty. I think the rosettes would be cute for lil head bands, clips or pins too!

Another post I loved was Megan's {embellished arm warmers}. I have seen some arm warmers before, but these are above and beyond all others. These are the most creative and adorable arm warmers I have ever seen. I even featured them a couple weeks back. Because I loved them so much, I went straight out and bought what I needed to make some for my girls. They loved them! They wouldn't take them off. My nieces came up that weekend and when we took them to the movies, all 6 girls were wearing them. We got a lot of stares and oh how cute those are. LOL So I know you will love making these for everyone you know! Even yourself! I made myself a pair.

    Pajama Makeover

While out shopping the other day, I found some women's pj's on clearance. My girls love to wear my t-shirts to bed, so I thought I would pick up some to refashion for the girls. I had to get the smallest size and even those were huge. They were swimming in them. LOL

    Before...
I apologize in advance for the before photo. This was taken on my phone. Oh and oops look at the sewing mess on the table behind them. eeekkk!!

See how big they are? Falling off the shoulders and not very kid cute! I wish they were all matching but you get what you get on the clearance rack. And I can't complain for only $5 each.

So I took these to the sewing machine and added a really cute cupcake applique to the chest of each one. I sewed a straight stitch around the cupcake for extra security. I added some ribbon to the side of the sleep shirts so I could tie a bow in the back. I also added a scrap fabric to the top of the shirt. This helped cover more of the upper chest area and also added more color. ;-) I used one of my old shirts on the pink jammies and some fabric from my collection of scraps for the blue one.

    Ribbon Tie Backs...
I added two different colored ribbons to the little girls so they knew which one was theirs. Smart mom eh?

    And the final look...
I love how these look now. So much cuter! Don't you think? Not bad for clearance rack pj's.

The girls {LOVE} them. As soon as they put them on they danced around. And tonight they couldn't wait to wear them again! Yeah!

    Father's Day Shirts

I seem to have this unspoken tradition
of making shirts for my kids to wear on Father's Day.
(but now it seems to be a spoken tradition)
I made the first ones three Father's Days ago,
when freezer paper stenciling was pretty new.

I stamped the kids hands (Naomi) and feet (Micah)
on paper and then used that as my stencil.
Then painted their hands and feet on their shirts.
On Micah's with the feet I also put the words,
    "following in daddy's footsteps"
(I used an printable iron-on paper)

    And Naomi's shirt said,
"my dad is a perfect ten"
    Man, they were so little.
You can see a few more photos from
    that particular Father's Day here.

Then last year I did another freezer paper stencil shirt.
I cut out words and a guitar, and stenciled them to the front
and did a little reverse stencil on the back.
    The shirts say,
    "my dad rocks"
The kids still wear their shirts and I can't wait for
the next baby to wear it someday too.
If you want to see some photos
of my kids with daddy on Father's Day
    last year go here.
I was struggling to figure out what to do
for the kids shirts for this year.
Then I saw something that triggered a thought process,
and out came these really fun shirts
(that aren't done yet but will be by Sunday).
"My dad is the BOMB!" shirts!
Yes, I used the freezer paper method once again,
and the quote bubble is extra t-shirt fabric from a different project.
I also used sharpie markers and hope they don't ruin
    the shirts in the wash.
Kinda funny that all the shirts seem to be
    red-white-and blue too!
Guess they're ready for the 4th of July!!
I can't wait for my kiddos to surprise daddy
at church on Sunday with their cool shirts.
Yes, it's the ONLY day of the year that
I let them wear t-shirts to church!
Gotta have a little fun right?!!

Now I just need to go find a skirt for Naomi...
I've made cards that go along with the themes as well...
and maybe I'll share those cards next week.

    I know, I know...
this post is a little late for Father's Day,
but it's so cute you could use it for anytime.
    You could just write,
    "you're the BOMB!"
    in the speech bubble...
    the sky is the limit!

Can't wait to see what you do with this idea,
run with it, make it your own,
    link up what you've done
    so I can admire and
    be inspired!!!!
