Granny is Ready for Valentine's 's Day

Valentine's Day is soon!
THIS week I spent some time with the grand kids in the central valley. A granddaughter was celebrating a 12th birthday. As usual with 5 kids in the house there was more than just a birthday happening. Needless to say the day of
"The Birthday" there was an older grand child's basketball game.
Everyone took it all in stride, the birthday was strung out over the week.
Ya do what Ya gotta do! No biggie, No brain er!
Six of one, half dozen of another!
So, we carried on. Basketball game was awesome. The varsity girls won their game. It was very exciting. The birthday girl didn't seem to mind, just another day. Besides, she had celebrations as they fit in, before & after the game on Monday, Wednesday night dinner with MOST of the family (yes, more activities) and a slumber party with friends on the (coming) weekend.
Several of our grand kids play basketball among other activities.

THEY are "ALL" use to the stop, go & hurry-up action packed lifestyle.
It really is "the way of the world" when you are a parent or a grandparent!
Anyway, I was ALSO busy; cooking and doing valentine projects. Here are a few of the projects we did while I was in the central valley.
By-the-by, the recipe posting this Friday was part of the birthday dinner....
IT was YUMMY!
So check back Friday for the recipes.
(Found this idea on Pinterest linked to this site...Hellogiggles.)
I made t-shirt scarves for the 7 granddaughters for Valentine's Day. We added some cute watches I found on clearance at TARGET!  Can't tell by the photo but, the scarves are PINK & PURPLE!!!
I found several choices of flowers (@Michael's) to clip on the scarves. Oh and butterflies too. Cute, Cute, Cute!
So inexpensive that I still have "folding money in my pocketbook"; as Granny use to say! For the boys...they got T-Shirts to wear and a watch!
While Raelyn and I were at Michael's, we saw a cute idea!
ONLY I think we made it CUTER! And less expensive!
So we bought some supplies. The project took minutes to put together.
The results were so cute!
You will need:
Drinking glasses (we used wine and champagne glasses),
glass beads (we used pink & red), valentines, drinking straws, valentine notes, white paper roses, faux strawberries, scissors and a hole punch.
 They look like little parfait's
We made them to use as name/place cards at the table. We made a set for each couple in our family.
The backside of the Valentine cards.
 My daughter will love them!
Next we wanted to make Teachers gifts (and others) for Valentine's Day.
These turned out adorable! I had seen 2 of the 4 on Pinterest!
 How CUTE is this?
You will need:
Construction Paper, rolo candy, candy kisses, hot glue gun, scotch tape and a real pencil for marking
Just took moments to make! All the kids LOVED these!!
For my Hubby; I used 3 rolo packages, red construction paper, scissors, pencil, pipe cleaners, scotch tape and valentine tags.
Cover all three with red paper...
Here are two versions of what to write to your Valentine. CUTE!
 A cigar & a flare...
These were fun to make, simple and easy.
Having fun with Style...

Embellished Lamp Shade...

Embellished Lamp Shade...

I had some very pretty lamps... BUT I wanted to Embellish them!
Just a little bit!!!
This is the finished Lamp Shade! I love how it turned out!
This is BEFORE the Embellishment!
These are the supplies I used. Ribbon & Lace bought on sale....Buttons I had been collecting...scissors and a hot glue gun.
*The bedspread where the lamps will eventually go/live, is white with a large silver flower embellishment! It's going to look amazing when I finally get to decorate! Yeah!!!
It is hard to see but the lampshade material has silver sparkles throughout the shade! I started tying and gluing on ribbon and lace in white and silver.
On a side note: These lamps will grace our new guest room...As SOON as the new garage/office is finished!
 A work in progress....
 It's coming along...
Loving how it is taking shape....
I was very happy with the way this shade turned out!
This photo is with the light on...
Another view of the finished shade.
I can't wait to redecorate the new guest room! Until then, I used another bedroom to showcase the lamp.

A Special Thank You Gift...

A Thank You Gift...

I needed 3 Thank You Gifts...We live in a small town...
I didn't have time to drive to one of the neighboring towns and search for SOMETHING...
And I wanted something Simple, DO-ABLE & USEABLE!
So I put my thinking cap on...
I decided to showcase a few local items...But didn't want to use
JUST a paper gift bag...Shoot, anyone can do that!
I wanted some personality thrown in......
I  had decided on some local wine along with a few other items....
So naturally...a Wine bag popped into my head.....BUT I needed a much larger size to included everything. Especially the large loaf of bread!
So, I cut out a much larger version of a wine bag from some heavy weight muslin and burlap, (the burlap was slightly smaller in width, but slightly longer than the main/muslin pattern).
Then I started sewing. I placed the burlap over the top of the muslin , making them into a large wine bag style gift bags. I added twine, (to close the tops), by sewing the twine into the seams.
Included in the bags were; Red Wine, Bread Dipping Oil, a small package of chocolate candies and a loaf of freshly baked french bread. Then I hole punched my business card and attached with the twine.
Ta-Dah....Done!
The bags were very simple to make, I frayed the edges of the burlap, leaving them longer on the top.
A Very Simple, yet a thoughtful gift with some personal touches!
These were so simple and didn't take very long to make.
Best of All...
The gifts were received with Style...

Little Boy Blue, A Shower Cake Gift...

Little Boy Blue Party...

Little Boy Blue...A Baby Shower
A very good friend asked me to help with a baby shower for her FIRST grandchild! She was holding a small family baby shower on a Tuesday afternoon.
*Find the recipe for this cake at the bottom of this post!
I offered to do the Centerpiece, which would also be my gift!
A Baby Shower Cake...made from Diapers, blankets, towels, toys etc.
It turned out so CUTE!
Our Guest of Honor & his Mommy!
Two weeks old! Precious!!!
So Cute...and fun to put together! We set a white bowl upside down, placed a platter on top, then a wicker style charger...AND then the CAKE!
We used burlap, twine and wicker to embellish the Blue Shower items. Everything came together so quickly....It took only minutes to set up for the shower.
Another view of the baby cake.
There are 50 diapers inside this cake!
Items for the cake...I went to Walmart & Michael's for everything!
Two layers of the cake are done....
I rolled the diapers inside a bath towel and rolled them into a cake layer. I tied it together with twine to hold it together.

This Gift Idea is so simple to do...Just have fun with it! I used socks, pacifiers, wash clothes, onesies, baby trinkets from Micheals, towels, diapers.....I also used Quilting straight pins to pin several items on the cake! They are longer than normal sewing pins. You may also use corsage pins. A little ribbon and a little imagination.....

Everyone LOVED it ...
especially... Mommy & the Grandma's!

I put a simple gift tag on the rubber ducky and my gift was ready to take center stage!

ADORABLE!!!

I found these cute little boxes at Michaels
We sat small topiaries in the box and used a brown tissue paper to stuff around the trees. Placed it on a wicker charger and TA-DA...
 called it done!
These boxes anchored each side of the Diaper Cake.
 Gift Table....
My Girlfriend chose finger foods & light desserts to serve her guests.
Cheese, Fruits & Veggies, Crackers, Rounds of Baguettes, a Chicken Pesto Dip and a Smoked Salmon Spread...YUMMY!
 For Dessert...
Strawberries & Cream Cheese drizzled with Chocolate
(Her lovely daughter's creation) and Angel Food & Pineapple Cake!
DOUBLE YUMMY!!
A Simple Shower with BIG results and a
Prescious Baby Boy!
A Sweet Baby Showered with Love & Style...
