Gimme a break...

My husband celebrated his birthday yesterday.
So I threw him a surprise party.
That's the seventh surprise party I've thrown for him since we met 11 years ago.
We recently told the church where he's the Associate Pastor
that we're going to be moving in a couple of weeks.
(Greg got a call to serve as the Pastor at a church in Tennessee.
So I guess we'll be VOLUNTEERS! ha!)
So it was extra special to have a bunch of our friends over to hang out.

I made a bunch of desserts and we just spent time hanging out,
the 13 kids had a great time playing together,
the 12 adults enjoyed conversation, beverages and corn hole.
The favorite dessert of the night was the kit kat bars I made.
So I'm going to share the recipe with you here...
they don't really taste just like kit kat bars but they're super yummy!

Sorry about the dark picture...took this late last night right before I devoured it.Prep Time: 15 minutes
Total Time: 15 minutes
Yield: 36-48 kit kat bars

Ingredients:
  • 60 buttery crackers, such as Keebler Club Crackers
  • 3/4 cup butter
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup firmly-packed brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 1-1/2 cups crushed graham crackers
  • 2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup peanut butter
Preparation:
  1. Butter a 9 x 13 baking dish. Line with a layer of 20 crackers.

  2. In a small saucepan, bring butter, sugars and milk together to a boil over medium heat. Stir in crushed graham crackers. Let boil 5 minutes.

  3. Pour half of the sugar mixture over the crackers. Cover with another layer of 20 crackers, pressing down lightly. Pour remaining syrup mixture over crackers, smoothing to coat.

  4. Top with the remaining crackers, pressing lightly.

  5. Place chocolate chips and peanut butter in a microwave-safe dish. Heat on high 30 seconds. Stir and repeat until chips are melted. (Alternatively, melt chocolate chips and peanut butter in a saucepan over low heat.)

  6. Pour evenly over the top layer of crackers, making sure the crackers are completely covered.

  7. Refrigerate until kit kat bars are firm.

I also added 1/2 cup of butterscotch chips to the topping.
These bars are yummy and will be the hit of your next party! So, if I'm scarce around here for the next month or so
please understand that I am trying to get everything ready
to relocate our little family of five and get a house ready to sell,
and pack and reduce and pack...

Gimme a break, gimme a break,
break me off a piece of that
kit kat bar!

Headband Hairdo

My daughters love to wear headbands, but hate that they always slip off when they lean forward. So here is one of the ways I fix their hair to keep that from happening.
First you want to start with some ponies up front. With those tiny little elastic bands.
TIP... I use a couple, sometimes three, because they tend to break easily throughout the day. Now that the girls are older and have thicker hair, I am going switch to horse bands. You can get them in a western store or horse product store. They are made for horse mane and tail braiding, but many of us mommy's like to use them on our lil ones.
Below is a pic of what you should have first. I made 5 mini ponies.
Next, place your headband under the pony tails. Right next to the bands.
Start on one side. I started on the left and worked my way across to the right.
Grab the first pony tail, all of it. The second pony, you will only take half of the hair. Now add those pieces to a section of hair that you parted on the other side of the headband and secure with a plastic band.
Now take the rest of the second pony tails hair and half of the third, again grab a section of parted hair on the other side of the headband and secure with a plastic band. Continue this all the way across to the other side.
Your done. now your headband cannot slip off.
And your lil girl will be so happy. Mine thank me and give me big squishy hugs. LOVE THAT!
I just have to point out that adorable flower on her headband. Isn't it adorable? LOL I love it. It's so pretty. I bought this one, but I have some beautiful scarves that I am going to use to made some of these flowers. Tutorial to come soon.
Hope you enjoyed this lil hairdo tutorial.

Inspired by | ROCKS

Recently we visited the | Petrified Forest | and saw so many cool things. One of my favorites was the Petroglyphs at Newspaper Rock.
There were over 650 Petroglyphs drawn at Newspaper Rock. This is one of the many photos I took. Aren't they just inspiring? I could just imagine the history behind them. So, so beautiful!

So.... I decided to look around the web at todays | Painted Rocks |
and here are some ROCKS I found out there that inspired me.
Aren't those some beautiful ROCKS? I found these images on GOOGLE. Go see what else you can find. Come back here and let me know what inspired you.

I can't wait to get started painting a few ROCKS of my own. Look for a future post. I will be sharing them here.
