Hair Accessory Frame Tutorial

I made this adorable Hair Accessory Frame for a good friend on mine. She just had her baby this week. Congrats Jenn! I will be delivering it soon.
What you will need...
  • Frame (whatever size you like, but larger is best for space)
  • Can of spray paint ~ I chose this color to match the lil ones room
  • Blocks (in this case I used pipe let over from hubby's job)
  • Sand Paper (Fine)
  • Scrap Fabric (large enough to cover the inner frame)
  • Blanket Batting (a little smaller than your fabric)
  • Staple Gun
  • Buttons
  • E6000 or Hot Glue Gun
  • Paint Pen (colors of your choosing)
  • Embellishments
How to make this...

First,  take the back off your frame. Place the frame on your blocks (these pipes came in handy, so if you have them, use those instead). This makes it easier to do your painting in 1 step. You can get all the outside and inside sides easily too!
Grab your spray paint and start spraying away. With this particular frame I wasn't worried about covering it completely. You'll see why in a second.
Once dry, take a fine piece of sand paper. Lightly sand the edges and sides. Rough it up a bit! I like the worn look. If you don't, you can skip this part. See below how cool it looks. LOL
Now your ready to go indoors and have some fun decorating. Take your blanket batting and cut to fit the inside of the frame opening, set aside for now.
Now take your fabric scrap and cut it to the size of the whole frame. You want it larger so you can fold it over and attach it to the back. But don't do that just yet. We need to add ribbons. Make sure you place the fabric over the batting. The batting is to give it a little extra lift and softness to the board.
It's time to lay out your ribbons. I used a variety of ribbons so I could give it a lot of color. Make sure you line it all out how you want them because your next step will be tacking them down.
Carefully turn over the frame so it is face down. You don't want your ribbons to fall out of place. Now grab that staple gun and tack down your fabric, making sure you get all the ribbons too! Trim excess fabric and ribbon. Don't worry about how ugly it looks, you can cover the back with a trim piece. I like to cover the whole thing. Once these are made, you won't take them apart anyway!
Now you want to use either a Hot Glue Gun or E6000 (I used E6000) and glue the ribbon to the fabric. You only want to glue the ribbons where they meet. See where the tip of the glue cap is. Glue those two ribbons down.
Now you get to pick some cute buttons to glue on top of the spots you just glued. You can use large, small and shaped buttons.
Finally, just embellish your frame with paint pens, flowers, a name, ect. I used scrabble pieces for her name and some newspaper flowers that I had made recently. Don't forget to cover the back of your frame with a large, thin piece of wood. Just tack or glue in place. Add a wall hanger and you are ready to hang and keep some cute hair accessories.
I think this turned out very cute!
I'd love to see your pictures, if you have made one of these! Send them our way and we will link them up to this post!

FLexi8 Review

The Flexi 8 is a completely unique, flexible barrette that holds thick, thin, curly, straight, fine and coarse hair. The Flexi 8 comes in a variety of sizes and hundreds of ever changing styles. Flexi 8 uses an ingenious patented locking mechanism to secure it in your hair. It’s such an attractive and unique accessory for your hair, once you try the Flexi 8, LOOK OUT! (you’re in love)
I was so happy to get to review Flexi 8 because I already owned one. My husband and I took the kids to San Francisco for a family outing. We always go the the Pier and walk around. We saw this interesting cart selling hair accessories.
I stood back and watched as the man showed other women how his product worked. I was amazed. Elbowed my husband and said, “Come on, I am getting one of those!”. He laughed. I have had it for a while now and have been wanting to get more when I was offered this review. YEAH! I received 5 beautiful Flexi 8’s for review. Woo! Hoo! As soon as I got them, I tried all sorts of different styles with my hair as well as my daughters hair. They are great for kids too! Originally, I only had 1 size that worked great for a pony tail or bun style, but now I can do anything. If you buy one, you definitely have to get more than one and maybe 2 in the same size too! Can you tell how much I love these? These are the best flexible hair accessories around. You have to have one!

Flexi 8 is getting amazing feedback!
Bought 5 clips this a.m.-for me & for gifts. Within hours a friend admired the clip in my hair. She was so impressed, she left to buy one. (Blodwen Tar – US)
Got 3 of these at a crafts fair in Garland, TX on the 4th of July and I LOVE THEM! The best hair product I have ever purchased, hands down. (Kim Reist – US)
These suckers hold like a rock with no pulling or poking.. They’re great! I will definitely be purchasing more in the future :D (Arica)
I went to San Francisco last weekend and saw the booth for the hair clips getting set up. I have curly, thick, long hair and being by the water made it frizzy. So I walked over to the booth and watched a man put a lady’s hair up in seconds and it looked so cute. Tried it in mine and it worked wonderfully!! No more hair ties, plastic clips that don’t last!! I was the very first sale at that booth in Frisco and now I want all the sizes!! (Renee)
Things that I love....

To share or not to share

The Thursday after Easter we decided on a big move.
We moved Micah to a big boy bed, IN Naomi's room.
We thought it would be good to get him used to sharing,
and used to a big boy bed, way before the baby came.

I am going to say though, that I really wanted to wait,
but my sweet hubby thought it was fine to do it then
(and then being a week after Micah turned 2).
Two weeks later we were over it.
Night one was terrible, followed by night two.
Night three and four showed promise and hope...
then came nights five through fourteen...
UGH!
I have no words for those nights.

We tried everything, disciple, bribes, locking the door
(yes, we are those parents, please don't turn us in).
Nothing worked.
They were up till 9 or 10 almost every night.
Naomi did great about not getting out of bed (too much).
But Micah just couldn't help but explore his new found freedom.
Naomi didn't help much though, I often times heard her tell him,
"go by the door", or "go find mommy".
The mornings weren't much better,
our early riser (Naomi) is also our talker.
You can guess how the turned out.
Micah was getting MUCH less sleep that he was accustomed too,
and Greg and I were over it.

So after two weeks of trying to share, we called it quits.
For now.
We will try again in July after Greg is back from his
many trips away this summer.
We will try when the little man is a little older,
can hopefully talk more, and hopefully will be okay staying in bed.

We did discover that Micah is like me, in that it takes him a while to fall asleep.
And Naomi is just like Greg (if she hasn't napped) and she falls asleep
the second her head hits the pillow!

Here's the fun room they will share once again come July! I would LOVE to hear some advice, success stories
or even some failures (so I don't feel all alone)
about how you got kids who didn't always share a room,
to get used to it, share, and not wake each other up...
if that's even possible!?
Thanks!

Mirror Project with your help

Okay, so my girls (ages 7 & 5)  have these cute white bunk beds and 2 years ago we found a dresser, desk and nightstand to go with it at a yard sale. Worked for a while, but I have been wanting a change. Today, I found a mirror that matches the desk, dresser and night stand. So I got it.

Now I need your help...
I want to refinish everything somehow. What would you do?
Share your thoughts about this project and what you would do in the linky below please!
I will choose one of your ideas and get to work on the re-do.

Here is the picture of the "Mirror" I found, so you can get an idea of what the furniture looks like. Sorry for the bad picture.

And thank you in advance for your help and all the great ideas! I know they will be amazing!

♥ Guest Blogger ♥

All Things BeautifulI normally run Guest Bloggers on Sundays, but my internet was down and I wasn't able to add it in. So I wanted to make sure today I shared with you...
Charity's fun project. She has an adorable blog called "All Things Beautiful"
and she is here today to share a fun stencil project that I know you will love.
Make sure you stop by and follow her and to check out all her other wonderful posts.

Now on to her great tutorial...

I'm Charity from Alberta, Canada.  I am the mother of four little chicklets, and I have one amazing hubby (who, by the way, has any tool I could ever need for my projects *sigh*).  I started blogging because first I found out they are really fun to read, and second because I have all this creativity building up that I needed an outlet for.  Although I have to say I sure get a lot more projects finished now (now that I have an audience waiting for my arrivals!)  I love yard sale-ing and thrift store shopping!  So don't hold me back, because come Spring I am setting my alarm to be the first at a yard sale, and will likely bowl you over in a thrift store if I see something I love and want to get it first!  I love finding cheap things and giving them new life, and I love using odd bits of what I find around me and using them for projects.  I love Anything and All Things Beautiful.  But when you can't find it, you can make it!

His and Hers Hooks

I started out with these two wooden plaques that I got at the Michael's Craft Store.  They were $2.69 each.

I primed them and painted them white.  I figured I would make the project a black and white theme, since that is what she is going with for her wedding colours.

I remembered a stamp I bought that I love, and hadn't used for anything yet, and this was the perfect project to use it for.  I painted the stamp with black paint and blotted on paper towel to make it a lighter more distressed shade.  Although, this picture I have posted below was before I decided it needed to be lighter (I had to make a quick fix!).

I bought these knobs and two back plates at Home Depot for $1.48 (knob), $.98 (back plate).

Of course I wanted these to match too, so I painted them black as well.

I had a friend make some vinyl up to say "HIS" "HERS", and the little stinker wouldn't let me pay for it!  But supposedly it would only cost a couple bucks (so keep that in mind- still cheap)

Lastly, I drilled a hole in the back to screw in the knob and back plate.

Okay...   ahh, are you ready for it!
Voila!

And there you have it!

I forgot to mention that I am putting a thing on the back (I can't think of the name of it - but I know what it is in my mind), so that you can hang these on the wall, and with the little knobs you can hang anything off them... towels, bathrobe, jewelry, ties, whatever!!

I am pleasantly pleased with myself.  Cute!!!  Well, enough of me, I hope you get inspired!!

Cost:
Wooden Plaques: $2.69 each
Back Plate: $.98 each
Knob: $1.48 each
Stamp: Had on hand
Leveling Hanger (the hook on the back): $1.49 (set of 6)
Vinyl: from a friend
Total: $11.79
