T-Shirt Scarf - Part 1

Have you seen all those adorable t-shirt scarves out there? I have seen them all over and until I saw one in person, I never really thought of making one. I thought they were cute, but it just wasn't top of my list.

Well, my moms neighbor made the cutest one. It was teal colors with cream colored flowers pinned on for extra cuteness! I went home that night and grabbed some t-shirts. 

(sorry for the wrinkles, they were in a bin of saved shirts. No sense in ironing when I'm cutting them up.)

In this post I will share how I made my first one. I have a couple more ways to make some that turned out amazing too. So I will be posting them too. Just not today. So check back soon for the others. I will leave links to all the scarves in each post so you can easily find them all.

Anyway....on to the first scarf. With this one, I did use my sewing machine. I know that there is a way to make one with out it and I did. So don't worry, it's coming. If you don't have a sewing machine, you can alway hand stitch this version.

First start my cutting the shirt from armpit to armpit. Then cut strips on the bottom half. I cut mine just under 1" but you can just judge it as you go. You don't have to measure really.

Set aside the top half of the shirt for now. Now take each strip and stretch it out. Not too tight, just enough to make the t-shirt curl a bit.

So I don't forget to tell you....sometimes shirts have tags in the seams. Make sure you cut that out. you don't want it sticking out when you wear your scarf. LOL That would just be silly.

Next, gather one end of the strips (seam together). Take them over to your sewing machine and give it a quick stitch. I liked doing this because it is not going to shift. Those strips are in place.

Remember the top of the shirt? Grab it and turn it over. Cut a rectangle piece to sew and help cover up where you just sewed the scarf together.  I cut my piece larger because I'm just going to trim it. So keep that in mind.

Sew your rectangle inside out!

Turn it right side out and place it around the scarf and sew in place.

Trim off the excess.

Turn this right side out and hide that seam. Now you are done! A clean finish for your scarf.

Add a cute pin or flower to finish it off. You can wear it long or double it up too!

Lucky Horse Shoe Decor

We made these a few years back, so sorry I don't have step by step pictures. But it is pretty easy to make and your friends will love putting them up as decor in their homes. I keep mine hung by my keys. The photo below is of a round (oval) horse shoe. We made many in the "U" shape too!

What you will need

Horse Shoes

Bendable Wire

Pliers

Beads

To start, wrap the wire at one end of the horse shoe to secure. Add some beads on the wire. Enough to cover only the front of the horse show. The back can stay bare. Wrap the wire again and add more beads. Continue this all the way around to the other side of the horse shoe. Tie and secure wire again. Your done.

If you like, you can add some hanging beads and charms like I did. Or hang across some words in the middle of the horse shoe. You can use a bunch of colorful beads or use similar colors.

I was very lucky to receive a comfy pair of yoga pants for review along with some Lucy sock and headband. The Lotus Yoga pants are extremely comfortable and super soft. I have been wearing them every chance I get! I love that they are soft to touch too! I was happy to see that they offered these in capri style too! It gets pretty hot here in the summer, those will be perfect! Lucy also sent me some black women's essential socks in a 3 pack along with a really cute headband. My girls stole the headband at first, lol, but I was able to get it back for a bit. It is very cute and did a great job of keeping my hair back during my workouts. Once Upon A Sugar Tree | Review and Giveaway

So you will not see their designs anywhere else. I love that! When you visit Once Upon a Sugar Tree, you will smile in delight. There are so many adorable designs, you won't know what to order. So you will order more than one item!

I was so lucky to find out that I would be getting a personalized bottle cap necklace for review. When I went into the store to browse around I immediately fell in love with many of their designs. I didn't just want to review the once necklace, I asked if I could purchase two more items. I tell you about those in a moment. As for my review item, I received the Minnie Bottle Cap Necklace. I was excited because my oldest daughter's 10th birthday is coming up and I knew she would love getting this. She loves anything Disney. When it came, I couldn't open the package fast enough. Oh my gosh, it is beautiful and the quality was perfect. I showed my younger daughters and of course they immediately asked mommy if they could have one too. They told me their big sissy is going to love it! I definitely buy this necklace again. They would make the perfect gift for the special little girl in your life.

Another one of their products I love is their personalized stick figures. These are the other two that I bought that day. So when I got the above necklace in the mail, I also got a keychain and necklace for myself. Just look at how cute my kiddos look as stick figures. I loved how easy it was to work with Once Upon a Sugar Tree. I gave them a description of my kids, some ideas like the baseball on my sons shirt and this is what they made. I loved it! It was perfect. No changes needed. What is also great is you can order these in black and white too. So if you wanted them simpler you could do that. Personally I think the color makes them irresistible. I love my necklace and the kids think its pretty cool. I love my keychain so much and am going to order some for gifts this mothers day. I know the grandmas and nana's in our family are going to love them.

Once Upon a Sugar Tree even offers personalized photo bottle cap designs. All you have to do is email them the photo you would like to use. They take it and transform it into a beautiful necklace or key chain. These would especially be great for gifts. People love getting something with a photo. I know I do. I have my kids photos on my key ring always. Keep in mind that the more kids you add, the smaller the picture will be. So if you are ordering this for a grandmother, you may want to get more that one. And if you're like me, I have more that one set of keys. So more than one of these would be perfect for me. My mom for instance, has 9 grandchildren and I know she will be thrilled to get this from the kids this year.

One of the designs that I was excited to hear about was one they made for a good cause. They designed this beautiful piece for the Starbright Foundation Inc.  When you purchase this item in a keychain or necklace, they will donate a portion of the proceeds to the foundation. I love it so much! I am going to order these for my girls for their Easter Baskets. I love that it's a little girl kneeling in prayer. I am also a fan of silhouettes, so I immediately fell in love with this design. I just might order these for all my nieces for Christmas this year. I have been wanting to get them necklaces and just have never found the right ones. I know these will be the perfect gifts for them. This design also comes with a blue background. So if you have a little girl who loves blue, she can have her favorite too!

Okay, I have to mention also that Once Upon a Sugar Tree offer Medical Alert designs too! That is something that is great for children who may need medical attention. My kids would have loved wearing these when they were young. My son had a blood disorder for a while and needed a medical bracelet. And two of my daughters had Phebral Seizures until they were around 2 years old. I didn't have bracelets for them and I always carried a medical bag around. These necklaces would have been a nice and stylish way to alert people to ask if there were any medical issues. So I am encouraging those who need them to get these. So cute compared to those plain, ugly other bracelets out there.

Headbands from Men's Ties

I love to shop at this local antique store. I used to go every Tuesday. She has a variety of products from estate sales and storage units. I always admired all the men's ties she had. She used them as curtains. So cute! Well one day she closed up shop and moved it to her home town (about 30 min away). She was going to have monthly sales at her place. It didn't quite work out, so she opened up a new shop in town. When she called, I was really excited to be able to go there again.

I went by there last week and as I shopped around, we caught up on things. Then she mentioned the ties. I said, "Oh yeah! I was going to ask you about those." She said she had them in the back all boxed up. She hadn't  decided what to do with them in the new shop. Well I asked if she could make me a deal on the whole box. They were neatly packed in the box. So, so many of them. She made me a great deal and I bought them all! Heeheehee! I was so excited.

So trying to keep it short, LOL, I am going to be sharing some tie projects with you. The first just happens to be headbands. I think they turned out beautiful.

First I took the long skinny end and cut about 15-17". This was going to be the main headband. I also bought some elastic for the back. I cut two pieces at about 5" for each headband. I used the sewing machine for 3 of them. But I recommend hand stitching these. You get a cleaner look. Some of the ties material was just too slick. I just wasn't happy with the finish.

So the picture below shows the one I hand stitched. Love how much cleaner this looks. It did take a little longer to make, but it was worth it. I really love the flower on this one too! I made this one for a friend. Hope it fits cause I didn't get to measure her head. LOL

Here is a close up of a couple of the others. I made a pom flower for one and just added buttons to the other. Both are cute. The one on the right was a flower I cut off and old t-shirt of mine that I don't wear anymore. It turned out pretty darn cute too.

I think these look really cute in the girls hair. I snapped the shot below with my cell phone. It looked way cuter when I actually fixed her hair. LOL Although I love the elastic, in the future, I plan on making more that are actually attached to pre-made headbands. The girls requested them. HAHA!
