TruKid Review and Giveaway!!

As many of you know I'm on a journey...a journey for a healthier family, a cleaner country, and a less toxic lifestyle. There are SO many things out there to scare a person from even starting this journey. It is OVERWHELMING to say the least. But for me it's all about baby steps and education. My first few steps in this healthier lifestyle journey were to stop buying food with high fructose corn syrup and artificial colors. Since that time we've come a long way and are currently eating a wheat free diet (when possible, we don't worry about it too much when eating at someone's house) and buying whole foods and not really anything processed. It's been an incredible journey and I still have so much to learn but my family and I feel great and confident in our decisions.

Along with making smarter food choices we've also been making smarter home cleaning and personal hygiene choices. I even make my own deodorant! I'm on my way to being "crunchy". I confess that I used to mock people who were "crunchy" and now I want to be "crunchy". But I've got a LONG way to go. Again, it's all about baby steps. While starting my journey towards less chemically filled bath and body products for my family I came across this great company called TruKid. I bought a book bundle and with the bundle received some free sample products to try. The first item that I received from TruKid was the TruBaby sunscreen and we loved it. Shortly after I received my first item I became part of their Mom Tester Community and I received a few other products to test and give feedback on. I have LOVED everything they have sent me. Everything that TruKid makes is made with natural ingredients and essential oils. You won't find any harsh chemicals in TruKid's products. They have a couple of great pages on their website that explain all the ingredients that they use and also explain all the toxic bad chemicals that are commonly found in most products that kids (and adults) use. There's also a great page on sun protection facts which is really worth reading before summer comes!!

Super Cream

Let me tell you a little bit about some of my favorite products that I have been able to try. The first thing that I love is their Super Cream. This super moisturizing cream is amazing. I have really dry skin in the winter, sometimes my fingers crack and peel. I have tried many different lotions and creams throughout the years but have never found anything quite like this. I LOVE it. It's not greasy, there's no harsh chemicals, the light citrus scent is just right and it keeps my hands moisturized for a long time. I've sorta hijacked this from the kids and just carry it around in my purse during the winter so that my hands don't ever get past the really dry stage. I have to order more of this because my first jar is just about gone. And when the kids do want to use some of this special lotion and I am in a giving mood and allow them to have some I don't feel bad or leery about them having chemicals all over their hands.

Sport Stick

Another item that I was able to try is the Sport Stick. This sport stick is SUCH a huge blessing to our family. I know that sounds weird but hear me out. Micah has growing pains...a LOT. Growing pains wake him up in the middle of the night and he wants medicine. We used to give him ibuprofen pretty regularly (well, like once a week at the most) for his growing pains. I would try to just rub his legs to get the pain to go away but it didn't usually work. We kept track of when we gave him ibuprofen so that he wouldn't get it too often but I really didn't like medicating him so much. When I heard about this sport stick I thought it was too good to be true. But seriously people this stuff works. Now, when Micah (or Naomi as she has started getting leg pain too) gets growing pains in his legs and sometimes his arms we tell him to go get the "pain stick". He loves to put it on himself when he's not in too much pain. And it works. He's able to go back to sleep and the pain goes away. I LOVE not having to medicate him anymore for the growing pains that he experiences. And even when I don't always believe that Naomi really has growing pains (she cries wolf a lot) I don't feel concerned or bad about letting her use the pain stick either!! I've even used it on some of my sore muscles as well. Great product. When we run out we will buy more for sure!! So, it's a blessing because it works and we don't have to give Micah medicine for his leg pain as often as we used to anymore!!

Bath Blasts

Another item we've been able to review is the bath blasts. These are little capsules that you run under the bath water that make amazing bubbles and they smell good too. No more worrying about your kids taking baths with lots of chemicals...no harsh chemicals in these little pods! And the kids LOVE these bubbles, they are big, last long and smell good. The sunscreen that we got in our first order was great. Easy to apply. Not greasy and it worked great. To think that I wasn't putting chemicals all over my kids gave me such a peace of mind. And we went to the pool a lot last summer (can't wait to do it again this summer) so it was great to know they were covered naturally and they didn't burn all summer long! The idea is to reapply every 80 minutes to make sure you're really covered!! We also got to review the sunny days stick and the kids LOVED to use this and put their own sunscreen on their faces! Yes, it needs to be put in the budget because while these items are not as cheap as going to the store and picking up a bottle these items are so much safer for our kids. And since my kids and their health is a top priority for me I want to do my best to help them stay healthy and that includes not dousing their sensitive skin with myriads of chemicals.

Beats by Dr. Dre Studio ~ Review & Giveaway

I was very excited when I was contacted by Staples to receive a pair of beats by dr. dre studio for review. My husband and I have been looking for a good pair of headphones for a while. We had heard {beats by dr. dre studio} were pretty nice and I couldn't wait to test them out.

While waiting for my headphones to arrive, I got a special lil surprise in the mail from my contact, Jessica. It was a Staples Easy Button. LOL I couldn't help but crack a smile. My life just became easier. YAY! My kids have since been pressing the button and the "that was easy" verse has been a regular sound here in my house. Although they were a little disappointed when it didn't make their homework magically get done! Gotta love that easy button.  Getting a {Lot of Laughs} over here! Thank you, Jessica!

. . . On to my review of these amazing headphones . . .

As soon as the headphones arrived I was impressed. Impressed with the packaging (yes, I loved the box it came in) quality, sound, carrying case and that I could use them for phone calls. I immediately put them to use. First we all (the kids and I) tried them out by listening to some music. The music sounded clear and precise. We all wanted to use them all night. When my husband got home he tried them out too. He said they were awesome and we got a kick out of him singing out loud. He even tried to steal them from me to take on the road. Nope, they are mine! LOL Ok, maybe I will share a little, but not just yet.

Next, I tried them out while making some phone calls. While they don't cancel out all noise (kids playing in the background) they do cancel it out enough so I can actually hear what the other person is saying. With other headphones I can still hear my kids and I have to stop and tell them to quiet down while I talk.  With these I don't have to at all.  I also worry about the other person hearing the kids in the background, but with the beats by dr. dre studio I don't. The microphone does a great job of canceling out the background noise.  I tested this out in the car, where it gets pretty loud sometimes and it passed.  I also want to mention that the transition from music to a phone call is smooth and when you hang up, it goes back to your music with ease.  

The earcups size and cushion make the headphones very comfortable to wear. They are just the right size for children, teens and adults. I do have to say though at the cost of these headphones, I myself plan on only my husband and I using them and possibly supervised use for the kids.  The headphones are durable and I think they would be just fine for kids use, but it's our preference to keep them for adult use most of the time. The headphone case is very impressive with its rigid construction. I didn't even know they came with a case, so I was excited to know I had somewhere to safely keep my headphones and cords all in one place. This case will keep your headphones safe and together when traveling too!

I would definitely recommend the beats by dr. dre studio to family and friends. They would make a perfect gift for anyone any time of the year. Thanks again to Staples and Jessica for allowing me to host this review.

For Your Boy - Review and Giveaway

Pajamas are to Micah what shoes and bags are to most women. He can never have enough. He wants to wear a new pair each night. He likes variety and they must be comfy. When I showed him these new jammies that the lovely people at For Your Boy sent for him to try out he was so excited! Like, jumping up and down excited. It may have something to do with the pirate on the front and that we just had a pirate flag at our house when the youth group came over and shared pictures from their recent trip to the youth gathering. And it may have just been the "I got something new" excitement. And it may have been just the new jammies excitement...but really I think it was all those things wrapped into one!

When I was asked to check out For Your Boy I was very excited to do so. It seems that girl things are all around..afterall I do have three girls and it's easy to make or buy little girl things. Sometimes the boys get a little left out. When I checked out their website I was please to see so many great little items for my boy!! They have some great backpacks with the perfect little boy designs. They have watches, shirts, jammies, rain coats, stainless steel water bottles, you name it. They have a great varitey of products with the perfect designs for little boys, from dinosaurs, to trains and cars, to pirates and superheros. They are even starting to carry superhero costumes and capes. You can easily find something at this store for your boy!!

Sibu Nourishing Cream Review and Giveaway

When I was younger I didn't take very good care of my skin...well, I didn't really have to. I was blessed with pretty good skin. It wasn't too oily, or dry and I didn't get many blemishes. I remember my sister always telling me that my time would come and that I'd get my share of acne too. Well, I did get a little acne but it was usually just one or two pimples one time a month (if you know what I mean)...so I never really got in the habit of washing my face with cleanser then applying moisturizers, make-up etc. I still don't wear much make-up but I have been better about washing my face and doing the whole routine. I wanted to see if there were other products out there that would moisturize my skin without making me sweat. I wanted to see if there were products that would actually protect my skin without being greasy. Usually when something says it's not greasy it still is. 

I was excited to start using the Sibu product and test out all its claims. First of all it truly is NOT greasy at all. The moisturizer leaves my skin feeling soft, refreshed and healthy. The scent is very light and I don't smell it after I put it on, which I like. Afterall, I don't want to be smelling my face all day. This is a great product and I'm so glad to have found it. I was asked by Kim if I would like to review one of her camera straps. When I saw all the cute straps she had to offer, I was very excited to say YES! All I had to do was decide on a favorite. LOL Which was very hard because there are so many cute ones to choose from! I love owls and when I saw the one I chose, pictured below, my search was over.

Isn't it cute?!? I love the ruffles and the owl ribbon.  This camera strap is perfectly made and very comfortable to wear. I put it on my DSLR camera as soon as I got it. It was the perfect week to get it. We had 2 field trips planned at school and 2 sporting events. I received many compliments from teachers, friends and strangers.  We even took the kids to see the Dr. Seuss Art Show at a local museum. I loved the overall look of my strap and will most likely be ordering another for my other camera.

Christmas Shopping

Have you started your Christmas shopping? Have you finished? Have you started your Christmas crafting? Or maybe at least made a list? Well, I think that I'm almost done with my Christmas shopping and I'm about 60% done with my Christmas crafting. I am determinded to make this a handmade Christmas! I always say I'm going to make all my gifts (well, the ones I can anyway) but usually end up too far behind when gift giving time actually comes...not this year! I've got a few more things to purchase but mostly it's just getting things finished up.

Since I'm almost done with my Christmas gifts I thought I'd give you a jump start on yours. I'm going to be listing some things in my etsy store next week. I've got two felt fishing sets. I've got a few felt pizzas, some felt cookies and if I have time some felt breakfast sets. I can do some custom paintings. I've got some scripture photos, some tie shirts and maybe even a few dresses. I hope to get most of these things finished and listed before black Friday...but really my goal is to get things done by cyber Monday.

Dot Girl First Period Kit Review and Giveaway

The Dot Girl First Period Kit is perfect for young girls who are entering womanhood. My oldest daughter is reaching this stage and asking questions. Last year she was able to take "the class", you know the one where the nurse comes in and talks to all the girls. They watch a video and ask questions. I was lucky enough to be there to help. I was very impressed with how all these young girls handled the video and asked questions. I was so proud of my daughter for really watching and asking the right questions. She did get some information that was provided by a sponsored company. It was okay. But when I saw Dot Girl, I knew I had to learn more. 

I received the Dot Girl First Period Kit for my daughter to review. This kit came in a very cute pink bag with an answer book, which answers twenty common questions girls may have about menstruation. It included information like, what kind of pads to use, how they should track their periods, how long they may bleed, why they have a period and information on cramping. It also shares when you may begin your period. There is nothing worse than starting to bleed and not know why. I think informing our daughters at a young age is a must. And I believe that this kit is a good way to introduce the subject to your tween girls.

This book is very easy to read. Your daughters will be able to easily read through it with you or on her own and understand what to expect. She will learn the right questions to ask you too! I love that is makes the subject so easy for us moms too! My daughter and I had a lovely conversation about her first period. She has even come to me with more questions without being embarrassed. The supply is great for getting a girl ready for the day her first period comes. She can easily tuck this bag away in her backpack or purse to take on any trip. She is now ready. If she is at home, perfect, you can help her along with her first experience. If she is at school, just help her prepare how to ask her teacher about leaving the classroom discretely to the restroom, kit in hand. I also recommend that you place a change of underpants in the kit with a zip lock baggy in case there are any messes. 

The reusable gel heating pad will be a life saver for them. Just simply snap the disc inside the bag a few times until it activates. The bag will become warm, perfect for soothing those achy, crampy tummy's.  The bag will become hard after cooling. To get it ready for the next use, just simply place in boiling water for about 10 minutes or until the bad is full of clear liquid again. Let cool and you can use it again! You can even use this as a cool pack. Just place in the freezer until the contents of the bag are frozen. Every girl and momma needs one of these!
